Disaster Map: Plan Your Escape Route

Plan evacuation routes, find FEMA shelters, hospitals, and safe zones for hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, nuclear events, and more.

! Understanding Risk Zones

Red Zones — High Risk

Greatest threat from the selected disaster. Having a detailed evacuation plan is not optional. Know your routes, have a go-bag packed, and practice your plan at least twice a year.

Orange Zones — Moderate Risk

May experience significant effects but not in the primary danger zone. You should still have an evacuation plan and emergency supplies for a minimum of two weeks.

Green Zones — Safe Zones

Lowest risk for the selected disaster type. Ideal evacuation destinations. Consider establishing relationships or caching supplies in these areas if you live in a high-risk zone.

Q Frequently Asked Questions

Are these shelter locations guaranteed to be open during an emergency?

No. Shelter locations shown are based on facilities that have been used or designated for emergency sheltering. Actual activation depends on the specific disaster and local emergency management decisions. Always check with your local emergency management agency for real-time shelter info during an actual event.

How accurate are the evacuation time estimates?

Estimates use road-based routing and average speeds. Add at least 50% to the driving estimate during an active evacuation to account for traffic congestion, road closures, and detours.
